Relaxing and swimming

This enormous and complex project was over half a year in planning and required the coordination of multiple trades to bring to fruition.

Over 90 square metres of decking and 75 metres of roofing complete this luxurious multi-zoned entertainment area..

Charcoal grey, 140mm wide Ekodeck plus boards with the hidden fixing system give clean lines to this deck, and the colour matches perfectly with the side lining of the partially inset 7 meter long swim spa. A lower level deck was added to provide an uncovered sunning area and space for lounging by the fire pit.

A frosted polycarbonate was selected by the client to reduce the intensity of the summer sunlight in this higher altitude location.

Construction took place during the Springtime with the goal of completion for that years planned Christmas and New Year’s gatherings.

The sub-frame layout and construction was by far the most difficult aspect of this project, working around the recently installed Spa presented a challenging task to maintain accurate levels around the site, however, across the entire project, the finished level of the decking deviates by less than 2 millimetres between any 2 given points.

The 4.3 metre wide, 3-piece bolted trusses were hoisted into position one by one and secured to the main house to the west, and once completed with sheeting, the last truss was secured to the flat roof of the cottage to the east with 2 lengths of cross-braced chain and turnbuckle tensioners.
This cross bracing eliminated all lateral movement of the long, but relatively narrow structure.

The stark contrast between the charcoal coloured decking and the crisp white painted timber work is exactly what the client was after and they are very happy with the finished product.
